My dad, Jason Hawk, hand-forged this hunting and field knife from 80CrV2 in 2023. He called the design the Narway, and it still bears his authentic JH maker’s stamp. It was forged alongside its companion from his Elemental Collection, sharing the same profile while following a more straightforward working design. 

He never got the chance to finish it. I completed it by fitting a spalted maple handle, sharpening the blade, and making the leather belt sheath, keeping my work limited to what was needed to complete the knife while leaving as much of his original work intact as possible.

The Narway was originally built as a dependable field knife, with a clip point design that provides a fine tip for controlled cuts and piercing tasks. The hollow grind offers excellent cutting performance by reducing resistance through material allowing the blade to cut efficiently and take a keen edge, while the robust spine provides the strength needed for years of hard use. It is paired with a handmade leather belt sheath secured with copper nails for additional durability and a traditional handcrafted finish.

Like many unfinished pieces that remained in the shop, this knife carries the marks and character from its time there. Rather than trying to erase that history, I chose to preserve it and simply finish the knife the way I believe he intended.
